The erstwhile Maternity Hospital, Puducherry has served the urban areas as well as the entire rural areas of Puducherry and it also covered the patients from neighbouring areas such as Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Thirukoviloor and Virudachalam of Tamil Nadu State. This is more or less a referral Hospital for the whole of Union Territory of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu in respect of specialized treatment in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Due to lack of space and inadequate beds in providing special care to the patients, it has been decided by the Government to construct a new hospital especially for Women and Children. The project was completed and the hospital was named after the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

Services Offered in MRD :

  • Receiving discharged In-patient case sheets from various wards of the hospital
  • Daily ward wise receipt entry of discharged case sheet into receipt register.
  • Making computer entry of daily casualty In-patient admission.
  • Making discharge entry into the computer with diagnose for all the daily discharged case sheets.
  • Temporary separation (100 nos. – 1 set) and arrangement of received In-patient case sheets into Pigeon hole rack.
  • Ip-no. wise indexing and permanent filing the In-patient case sheet into Optimizer rack.
  • Receiving and arrangement of various registers like Admission, Confinement, Anaesthesia Elective and Emergency, OT Obstetrics, OT Gynaecology.

  • Tracing and issue of old case sheets for the purpose of :

    • Verification of name and address - Birth Registration staff

  • When again received the above case sheets, making entry into the register and Re-filing the case sheets into optimizer.
  • Death report to Oulgaret Municipality :
    • Receiving and verifying the death report from concerned wards.
    • Making entry into death register. (Live and Death, Still Birth Register)
    • Dispatching the death report to the Oulgaret Municipality, Puducherry.
    • Affixing signature in each death registration record in Municipality Death Register at Oulgaret Municipality Office.
  • ICD Coding for Cause of death in the Death form sent to Oulgaret Municipality.
